Ihr, meine lieben Leserinnen und Leser, m\u00f8get doch mal in der Suchmaschine eurer Wahl nach „Kuschelhormon“ suchen. Da sollte sofort „Oxytocin“ auftauchen. Und das stimmt ja auch alles und das ist eine ganz wichtige Funktion, die dieses Hormon da ausuebt.<\/p>\n

Nun las ich aber vor einer Weile „Oxytocin promotes human ethnocentrism<\/a>“ von Carsten K. W. De Dreu, et al<\/em>. in PNAS, 2011, 108<\/strong> (4), p. 1262–1266.<\/p>\n

Um eine lange Geschichte kurz zusammen zu fassen zitiere ich das Ende des besagten Artikels:<\/p>\n

There is no doubt that oxytocin is implicated in the development of trust [\u2026], empathy, and prosociality [\u2026], but these tendencies appear limited to individuals belonging to one’s in-group [\u2026]. Thus, rather than making humans prosocial, oxytocin functions to strengthen an evolutionary evolved and rather functional tendency to discriminate between in-group and out-group as well as to give members of one’s own group preferential treatment. Such ethnocentrism has adaptive value to individuals and their groups but, unfortunately, also paves the way for intergroup bias, conflict, and violence.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
